Ways to Use Essential Oils

Since pure Essential Oils are very concentrated, they will need to be diluted in a base oil or product for use. Without base oils or products, Essential Oils may be harmful and irritate your skin (except Lavender and Tea Tree, which can be used straight from the bottle onto the skin) or cause damage to surfaces.

There are many ways to use Essential Oils and benefit from the properties and aromas. These can be beneficial to almost everyone. In this chapter, you will find how to use Essential Oil-based products from the well-known methods such as massage to bathing, natural blends, oil burners and inhalations.

Add 6-10 drops of Essential Oils to a full bath. Agitate the water to disperse the Essential Oil evenly before entering the water. Use warm water to relax; use hot water to revitalize. Drop into the base of the shower after washing and, upon the rinsing body, inhale and enjoy the beneficial aromas.

Add 5-10 drops of Essential Oil to a large bowl of boiling water. Stir quickly with a metal spoon ( a wooden spoon will absorb the oils). Place face over the bowl and inhale. For a more intense inhalation, place a towel over your head and bowl and inhale gently. This application is an invaluable aid for relief of colds, sinuses, and headaches. It is also ideal to hydrate and cleanse skin and improve stamina. For a quick inhalation, add two drops of Essential Oil neat—not diluted—to a handkerchief or tissue and inhale.

Massage is one of the oldest forms of treatment. Use a ratio of 1 drop Essential Oil to 2 ml of Base Oil. An aromatic massage is a delightful experience and will leave you feeling wonderful for days.

Oils Burners and Diffusers
Made specially to use with Essential Oils, oil burners and diffusers warm the oil and release the molecules into the atmosphere. When purchasing an oil burner, look for one with a large top bowl. Fill the top bowl with warm water and add 10 drops of Essential Oil. Place a tea light candle in the bottom section and light. The Essential Oil will gently fragrance the air and, depending on the properties of the oil, either create an aromatic ambiance or rid the air of insects, bad smells, bad moods and the like. Use the diffuser per the recommended instructions.

These are just a few of the ways to use essential oils, but it’s a good start!
