7 Ways to Use Lemons Essential Oil in Your Beauty Routine

Lemon Essential Oil is excellent for everyday use in your beauty routine. The properties of the lemon essential oil are quite diverse, and this is why it has so many uses.

It can be combined with other oils to give even more benefits, but today we are just going to look at what you can do with lemon essential oil for your beauty routine. There are quite a few qualities to the lemon essential oil such as antibacterial, antiseptic and cleansing and these allow you to better your appearance without any harsh chemicals
So here are seven easy ways you can use it in your beauty routine.

1. Lazy Lemon Face Scrub

This face scrub works extremely well on oily skin and it’s not as harsh as some acne medication treatments. As Lemon Essential oil has antibacterial properties, it is ideal to use to as part of an acne busting routine.

½ cup Rolled Oats
½ cup Warm water (don’t use hot)
5 drops Lemon Essential Oil

Combine Oats and Lemon Essential Oil in a bowl, add water until it mix becomes a slurry consistency. Gently Massage onto your face for about 1 minute and then rinse with warm water. No moisturise as per your skin type.

2. Cucumber Lemon Toner

Over the years we have to be told to “cleanse – tone – moisturise” and that is what we have all been doing, but I have found toning only needs to be done on oily skin or on t-zone of combination skin as toner tends to dry out skin. Lemon is a great addition to your tone as it is prized for its cleansing effect that combines with its antiseptic properties.

Cucumber slices
10 drops Lemon Essential Oil
Cold Water

Make this mixture up the day before as it is even better as the cucumber and lemon infuse together. It can last a week or two in the refrigerator.
Apply to your face with a cotton ball after cleansing your face and before moisturiser.

3. Lush Lemon and Coconut Moisturiser

50 ml Coconut Oil Cream (recipe below)
(dry skin add 1 tbsp of sweet almond oil)
10 drops Lemon

Moisturise both your face and body with rich cream.

Coconut Oil may seem as it is drying and it is not always recommended for dry skin simply because it is quick to absorb and thus it needs to be applied more frequently to dry skin. A better solution is to combine coconut oil with sweet almond oils that have a slower absorbency rate, which allows the belief of both.

First make the coconut oil cream
I usually blend up a full jar of this at once as I use it for some many other recipes as well, and it makes it easier to mix.
Put Coconut Oil into a mixing bowl. Note: DO NOT melt the coconut oil first. It will only whip up if it’s solid.
Mix on high speed with blender or bar mix for approx 6- 7 minutes. This is not suitable for the food processor as the blades get too hot and tend to warm the oil and stop from creaming.
The consistency will be similar to un-whipped cream, but it will not go solid anymore instead keep the cream like consistency.

Now take out your 50 ml and add your Lemon Essential Oils and apply to your face and body generously.

4. Sugaring Hair Removal Wax

This one uses lemons as the main ingredient instead of lemon essential oil, and this is to create a natural homemade wax. The wax is then used as you would commercial hair removal wax.

2 cups sugar (raw preferred)
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup water

Mix ingredients in a saucepan over a medium heat. Stir the mixture often, ensuring it doesn’t overheat or burn at the bottom. Allow to come to the boil and then turn down the heat as you do not want to cook this quickly. Allow to simmer for 25 minutes.

You know that you have it right when the colour of the mixture turns to a dark amber colour. Remove it from the heat and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes. Place in airtight container (don’t leave out as air will make the mixture to sticky to work with). Now allow it to cool completely.

When it is cooled down, roll the mixture into a ball and use as you would any commercial wax. Pull it in the direction opposite to the hair growth and then repeat until you have removed all unwanted hair.

5. Sunshine and Lollypop Hair Rinse

Lemon Essential Oil is great to give your hair shine and reduce dullness.

1 tbsp coconut or sweet almond oil
3 tbsp water
5 drops Lemon Essential Oil

Use this instead of shampoo. Wet hair as normal (using only warm water not hot) and add a couple of tablespoons of mixture to the palm of your hand and rub into your hair gently and slowly. Leave in for 1-2 minutes and rinse out.

6. Blonde Highlights Helper

Lemon Essential Oil is an amazing way to add natural highlights to your hair.
You can do this two different ways with the first is adding your lemon essential oils drops directly onto your brush and brush your hair. You can add another drop each 5 strokes and do up to 50 strokes to get the desired effect.

100ml Atomiser or spray bottle
99 ml water
20 drops lemon essential oil

Create a spray bottle of lemon essential oils and water and spray onto hair before brush and styling hair repeat each day until desired research is achieved.

This method of natural highlights may not work for everyone’s hair. It is recommended for people who have blonde or light brown hair.

7. Lovely Lemon Body Blitz

Make this once a week scrub to remove dead skin from your body and invigorate your mind with the amazing fresh Lemon Aroma.

1 cup of Sea Salt
(you are looking for the chunkier salt, not the table salt)
1 Cup Sweet Almond, coconut or olive oil
3-10 drops of essential oils

Mix all together in a small bowl. When you are ready to use massage gently onto skin, it will feel abrasive so don’t scrub too hard. Finally, rinse off with warm water and moisturise your skin.
